Hodgson: A bad day at the office for the 72-year-old

Crystal Palace slumped to a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham in North London.

Roy Hodgson made two changes to the lineup against Villa last month - Mamadou Sakho and Andros Townsend came in to replace the injured Martin Kelly and James McArthur.

It was a nightmare first half for the Eagles as the home side capitalised on some awful defending. Son Heung-Min scored in the 10th minute after picking up a long ball that eluded Sakho, and cut inside to slot the ball past Vicente Guaita.

Spurs were 2-0 up after 21 minutes when Patrick van Aanholt inadvertently directed the ball into the back of the net from a Serge Aurier cross.

Two minutes later it went from bad to worse for Palace when Son scored a volley for his second of the game from another Aurier cross.

It was well and truly game over for the visitors shortly before half time when Lamela scored a fourth for Spurs.

In the second half Tottenham went close through Son and Lamela, and Palace had chances through Gary Cahill and Cheikhou Kouyate.

All in all, a very poor showing from the Eagles, and they'll have to put this game behind them quickly and look to produce much better performances in their next two home games against Wolves and Norwich.

Palace: Guaita, Ward, Sakho, van Aanholt, Cahill, Schlupp, Townsend (Camarasa, 85), Milivojevic, Zaha, Kouyate (McCarthy, 76), Ayew (Benteke, 71)

Tottenham: Lloris, Vertonghen, Rose (Davies, 76), Alderweireld, Aurier, Winks (NDombele, 67), Lamela, Kane (Moura, 85), Sissoko, Eriksen, Son
