Crystal Palace virtually secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 win at Newcastle United.

The triumph pushes Palace to 39 points – just shy of the magical 40-point mark – and up to 12th in the table.

The hosts had a 'goal' chalked out for offside in the first half after Salomon Rondon turned in Matt Ritchie's knock down.

Then Palace repeated the trick after James Tomkins rifled home from a corner but James McArthur was in an offside position right in front of the keeper.

After weathering almost constant pressure, the Eagles netted the decisive goal in the 81st minute as Luka Milivojevic again rescued the points with a penalty.

On the counter, Wilfried Zaha was tripped the area by DeAndre Yedlin and Milivojevic fired home his 10th spot-kick out of 11 this season.

Newcastle: Dubravka, Schar, Lascelles, Lejeune, Yedlin, Ritchie (Atsu 90), Almiron (Dummett 65), Ki (Shelvey 76), Hayden, Perez, Rondon.

Not used: Darlow, Fernandez, Manquillo, Muto.

Palace: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Tomkins (Dann 73), Van Aanholt, Townsend (Kouyate 84), Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp, Zaha, Batshuayi (Benteke 64).

Not used: Hennessey, Ward, Woods, Ayew.
