Palace are spot on to claim deserved point

Crystal Palace halted their three-game losing run with a 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal.

Eagles skipper Luka Milivojevic netted twice from the penalty spot to rescue a point late on and end the Gunners' 11-match winning run.

It was the least Palace deserved as they pressed Arsenal right from the first whistle and they almost notched an early goal but Wilfried Zaha's shot struck the post.

The hosts had appeals for a penalty turned away after Jordan Ayew went down in the area under a challenge by Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi.

But in first-half stoppage time, referee Martin Atkinson did then point to the sport as Arsenal failed to clear a corner and Mustafi clattered Cheikhou Kouyate in the box.

Milivojevic, who had missed from 12 yards in the previous fixture against Everton, held his nerve to dispatch into the bottom left corner for Palace's first goal at home this season.

The Gunners were on level terms six minutes into the second half through a brilliant Granit Xhaka free-kick from the right corner of the box that rocketed into the top left corner.

Four minutes later, Arsenal made it 2-1 when a corner was flicked on by Alexandre Lacazette's hand and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got away a shot that just went over the goal line despite Wayne Hennessey's attempts to push it out.

Goal-line technology confirmed to referee Atkinson that it was a goal, but he waved away Palace protests over Lacazette's hand ball.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson made the unusual decision to bring on 60th-minute substitute with the introduction of Max Meyer, who hit the post within moments of coming on and he later fired over from close range.

Palace were given a lifeline back into the game when Zaha raced on to sub Alexander Sorloth's pass and was taken down in the area by Xhaka for another penalty in the 83rd minute.

Milivojevic again coolly put away the second spot kick to earn the Eagles a deserved share of the spoils.
