Team news

Palace striker Christian Benteke won't play as he is still struggling with a knee injury that kept him out of the win at Huddersfield last Saturday.

Manager Roy Hodgson may stick with the same team that triumphed in Yorkshire with Jordan Ayew taking the Belgian international's place.

Forward Connor Wickham and defender Scott Dann (both knee) remained sidelined.

Newcastle duo Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey are both fit again after recovering from injury, leaving just Florian Lejeun as their only long-term absentee.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"I think Newcastle are probably an animal that adopts an intelligent approach to the current situation they find themselves in.

"I think they know how good they are and what they are good at and they know how to win games, because they finished 10th last season, just above us on goal difference, which is a very good achievement.

"They also know they have played Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal – they have had five difficult games and I am pretty certain that they realise they are not in an ideal situation, like we did last year.

"But there is a long way to go and a lot of football to be played, and believe they are good enough and a big enough club to get away from the relegation zone."

Rafa Benitez

"Zaha is a good player, no doubt about that, but I think the FA have to deal with his comments [about a lack of protection from referees]. But I don’t think Andre Marriner will have this in the back of his head.

"Don’t forget that we had Townsend here and he was a good player too, they payed good money for Benteke in the past and have Ayew too as a striker. They have some good players in attack, you cannot just worry about one."
