Crystal Palace edged closer to Premier League safety with an emphatic 5-0 win at home to Leicester City.

The victory pushes Roy Hodgson's team up to the heady heights of 11th and six points above the relegation zone with just two fixtures left to play.

Palace went ahead after just 17 minutes through a well-worked team goal as Ruben Loftus-Cheek carried the ball down the left, he combined with Patrick van Aanholt, then Yohan Cabaye and James McArthur, who set up Wilfried Zaha to fire home.

The Eagles doubled the lead in the 38th minute through McArthur who rifled low into the bottom corner from Zaha's pass.

Leicester went down to 10 men in the 56th minute after Marc Albrighton was shown a straight red for hauling down Zaha as he ran on to a ball over the top.

Loftus-Cheek made it 3-0 on 81 minutes with the Chelsea on-loan midfielder neatly rounding keeper Ben Hamer to score from Mamadou Sakho's through ball.

Three minutes later, Palace got a fourth goal after substitute Jeffrey Schlupp had his shot saved and Van Aanholt put away the finish.

Fellow sub Christian Benteke added a fifth goal from the penalty spot in the 90th minute after he was tripped in the area by Harry Maguire.

Palace: Hennessey, Ward, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, McArthur (Schlupp 83), Milivojevic, Cabaye, Loftus-Cheek (Lee 87), Townsend (Benteke 87), Zaha.

Not used: Speroni, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Sorloth.
