Yohan Cabaye and Pape Souare are doubts for this tricky tie against the Red Devils.

Joel Ward could make his return to the back four after getting some minutes towards the end of the 5-1 defeat to Manchester City in midweek.

Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh are not match fit, so won't feature.

Antonio Valencia and Paddy McNair are ruled out with respective foot and abdominal injuries.

Ashley Young is edging closer to full fitness after playing for almost an hour in midweek, while Luke Shaw remains a long-term absentee.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

On Wayne Rooney: "He is at the top of the pitch now and maybe he is not getting the service he would probably want. I can see a little bit of frustration in him but that makes him dangerous.

"Rooney has proved many times, particularly when he gets criticism, that he can deliver. We'll be on our guard for Wayne. He's an outstanding player, he's the England captain and we'll give him the respect he deserves."

"United's long spells of possession could threaten to drive the atmosphere into a lull, but we need to keep the fans singing along.

"United aren't getting as many shots off as they normally do, but defensively they're always in a good shape. I expect it to be a fairly cagey game."

Brede Hangeland on Man Utd

"They're a top club, as always, and are very hard to face. They've got loads of good places and they keep the ball really well, so it's another tough test for us.

"But it'll be tough for them as well to come to Selhurst Park. They keep the ball more than almost any other team in the league and that can be frustrating if you're defending against them and not seeing much of the ball, but if you break on them you can be dangerous.

"It will be interesting to see how that goes. They've always got world class players in every position. That's something that you have to expect in the Premier League these days, especially when you're against the top teams. I think it's going to be a massive occasion.

"The fans will be right up for it, we're obviously fired up and we'll be trying to get the win that we desperately need. In this league, on a good day, you can beat any team and we need to keep that in mind, have a good go and see what happens."

Louis van Gaal

"Willo was injured but also Memphis Depay was injured [at their loss against Middlesbrough in the Capital One cup]".

"It was a very bad game afterwards because we lost on penalties and also we lost two players. We have to wait and see [how long they are unavailable for] because it was only two days ago."

Daley Blind

“Crystal Palace are a very stable team with a lot of quality in their side. They have bought some good players so it’ll be a tough game again. We remember last season’s match which was a hard one as well.

“We try to prepare ourselves in the best way we can. Despite their last few results, you can still see they have some quality players who can change games. We have to make sure they don't do that against us.”
