Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"It is a huge advantage he [Tony Pulis] has in terms of playing an opposition. He knows us. It is more or less all of the players he had here who will be starting, with the exception of Wilfried (Zaha) and James McArthur, everyone else was here.

"He has a tremendous ability to strangle a team, he knows how to knock the stuffing out of a team and no-one could be worse to play than us and the position we are in. We respect them and we respect what he will do and we will try and get the win with all that in mind.

"What he did was separate to what I'm doing, it was a fantastic achievement and he won manager of the year and quite rightly so. For me it is different, I'm just trying to get the best out of the team, I'm not looking for a competition with Tony and I'm sure neither is he - we are professional Premier League managers, we have proven that and we can do the job if we have the players and I'm fortunate to have some good players.

"The most crucial thing for us is to try and secure a top-10 finish, I think that is a realistic aim. Then we need to build on that, the chairman has done a fantastic job here and it will probably be a big challenge for him in the summer because I'm going to be banging his door down about some big signings to come in and he has to do what is right for Crystal Palace not what is right for me."

Tony Pulis

"I don't want to talk about what went on and what didn't go on. What mattered was Palace staying in the Premier League. It's a good football club and it's got unbelievable potential.

"The supporters deserve it, they deserved to stay in the Premier League, and to finish 11th was absolutely fantastic. It was something everybody at the football club can be proud of.

"We spent just under or around £3m in that term, like Scott Dann, Joe Ledley, Wayne Hennessey and Tom Ince. They were great signings and really worked and gelled with the group already there.

"Whatever happens between me and another individual, happened between me and him [Steve Parish]. I'm not going to talk behind people's backs. There was no fallout, we had dinner on the Thursday night before I left.

"Palace are doing fine. I was surprised they didn’t get off to a good start. They’ve spent £30m this year on players to add to a squad that finished 11th last year.

"So, is it any surprise they are doing well now? No, not at all. If you look at the facts - a group of players were left behind and are still there. And both managers have added to it.

"They’ve made the group stronger. It’s no surprise to me and Alan is a really good manager."
