Crystal Palace were dumped out of the Capital One Cup after a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Newcastle.
Palace failed to capitalise on Newcastle going down to 10 men in the additional period of this topsy-turvy tie after Mehdi Abeid was sent off and the Magpies now face Manchester City in the last 16.
Neil Warnock's men had fine start to the match by going ahead after 25 minutes with a penalty from Dwight Gayle after Wilfried Zaha was tripped in the box by Daryl Janmaat.
However eleven minutes later, Newcastle were on terms through Emmanuel Riviere who neatly turned Brede Hangeland and fired in from 20 yards.
They then took the lead three minutes into the second half with a penalty of their own after Paddy McCarthy brought down Sammy Ameobi in the area. Riviere put away the kick for his second of the game.
Warnock tried to revive Palace's attack by introducing Andy Johnson into the fray for the final 18 minutes of normal time for his second Palace debut.
Gayle planted a header against the foot of the post, and just as it seemed the Eagles were heading out of the competition, up popped teenage substitute Sullay Kaikai to score an injury-time equaliser on his debut.
With the game forced into extra time, Abeid saw red in the 100th minute after he was branded a second yellow for fouling Zaha.
The hosts pressed for the winner as Gayle saw an effort disallowed for offside. But Newcastle snatched a late winning goal to make it 3-2 as Paul Dummett's diving header clinched a dramatic victory in the 112th minute.
