Crystal Palace ended the season on a whimper with a 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff.

The Eagles finished the Championship campaign in 17th place, while Cardiff confirmed their berth in the play-offs for the third season in a row.

Palace went in front after just 13 minutes when Wilfried Zaha latched onto an inch-perfect Darren Ambrose throughball to slot past an onrushing David Marshall for his ninth goal of the season.

Cardiff levelled things up on 53 minutes with a Peter Whittingham free-kick from a tight angle on the right that flew into the bottom corner.

Then Don Cowie grabbed the winner for the Bluebirds in the 62nd minute with a smart volley after after Aron Gunnarson's throw had been flicked into the penalty area.

Palace: Price, Parr, McCarthy, Moxey, Parsons, Ambrose (De Silva 73), Garvan, O'Keefe, Scannell (Pedroza 54), Zaha, Murray.

Not Used: Fitzsimons, Wynter, Sekajja.

Cardiff: Marshall, McNaughton (Blake 72), Hudson, Turner, Taylor, Lawrence, Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Cowie, Miller (Gestede 79), Mason (Earnshaw 90).

Not Used: Heaton, McPhail.
