Crystal Palace had to settle for a 1-1 draw against derby rivals Brighton at Selhurst Park.

On-loan striker Chris Martin put the Eagles ahead in the second half with a penalty before Ashley Barnes equalised for Brighton also from the spot shortly after.

Palace's Wilfried Zaha got his side off to a bright start by getting the better of Adam El-Abd and Will Buckley had to clear the dangerous cross wide of the goal. Then Brighton stopper Peter Brezovan had to react well to make a smart save from the Ivorian winger.

Craig Mackail-Smith had an effort blocked by Julian Speroni after some good work by Buckley before Paul McShane thwarted Barnes' shot.

Martin and Sean Scannell saw attempts on goal go a begging but the Eagles took the lead on 64 minutes with a penalty. Buckly was adjudged to have brought down Zaha in the box and Martin put away the spot-kick.

Ten minutes later, Buckley fell in the area under a challenge from Nathaniel Clyne and Barnes netted the leveller from the penalty spot.

Speroni pushed Inigo Calderon's 30-yard rocket over the bar in stoppage time to help earn a point for the Eagles.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, McShane, Gardner, Parr, Zaha, Jedinak, Dikgacoi, Scannell (Ambrose 77), Martin (Garvan 90), Easter (Murray 81).

Not Used: Price, Egan.

Brighton: Brezovan, Calderon, Greer, Dunk, El-Abd, Navarro, Bridcutt, Sparrow (Agdestein 70), Buckley, Mackail-Smith (Vokes 70), Barnes.
