Team news

Eagles skipper Paddy McCarthy is well again after beating the illness that forced him off the field against Scunthorpe last time out.

James Vaughan is ready to make his Crystal Palace debut in attack signing on loan from Everton. Fellow loanee Anthony Gardner, who has been borrowed from Hull City, is expected to line up in defence.

Jonathan Obika (calf) is doubtful of playing, while David Wright (calf) and Darren Ambrose (leg) are missing.

Wilfried Zaha is in the middle of a three-match ban after his red card against Portsmouth in the Carling Cup.

Reading's Ian Harte is set for his debut and Zurab Khizanishvili is likely to play after joining on loan. Andy Griffin and Brynjar Gunnarsson (both hamstring) are doubts, while Julian Kelly and Jay Tabb are out.

Quotes

Brian McDermott

"They've got good players. Every time we play them it's a tough game. I'm not worried. We know what we're up against and we're looking ahead to the game.

"We were literally down to the bare bones defensively at Leicester and our squad looks much healthier now and we are stronger in numbers.

"We're missing a fantastic player in Gylfi Sigurdsson but the test for me and the players now is to prove that we can work together for the right results."

Paddy McCarthy

"We let ourselves down [against Scunthorpe] and you'll have to ask the gaffer the question of whether he will change the side on Saturday or stick with what he's got.

"All the lads are really looking forward to Reading and putting things right. It hurt us as individuals and as a team. I know the gaffer felt let down."
