Calvin Andrew's winner at Sheffield Wednesday earned Crystal Palace a 2-1 win and a place in the FA Cup fourth round.

The striker hauled himself off the bench to net the winner in the 68th minute after a Clint Hill own goal cancelled out Neil Danns' opener.

Palace, who had named just four substitutes and were without Victor Moses in the squad, took the lead inside 19 minutes when in-form Danns slotted home from close range.

Danns almost added another with a volley, while struggling Wednesday's best chance was a Francis Jeffers shot blocked by Jose Fonte.

Then a minute before the break, Hill gave them a lifeline by putting the ball into his own net from six yards after Leon Clarke's shot was blocked.

Sean Scannell hobbled off injured after 58 minutes but his replacement Andrew was to become the Eagles hero.

Wednesday defender Frank Simek did not clear a long ball and Andrew stole in to fire a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Jeffers, Tudgay, Jermaine Johnson and substitute Etienne Esajas tried in vain to get an equaliser, but Palace held on for a rare FA Cup third round victory.
