Manager Neil Warnock had an unhappy return to Sheffield United as his Crystal Palace side lost 2-0.
United began the match well as Danny Butterfield was forced into a brave block to keep out a shot from Ched Evans and Jamie Ward fired an attempt at Julian Speroni.
Jose Fonte had an effort for the Eagles before Sheffield took the lead in controversial circumstances in the 21st minute.
Lee Williamson stabbed Stephen Quinn's cross beyond Speroni before Palace defender Claude Davis cleared the ball away. But after consulting his linesman, Colin Webster decided the ball had crossed the line and awarded a goal.
Speroni saved Evans' volley from Ward's corner kick, while Darren Ambrose hit a free-kick over the crossbar.
Ambrose was replaced by Sean Scannell for the second half and Evans wasted another good opportunity for the Blades.
Butterfield had to go off injured in the 55th minute and was replaced by Nathaniel Clyne as the match become a scrappy affair.
Blades full-back Kyle Walker blasted a shot over and Victor Moses and Neil Danns carved out chances down the other end.
Ward missed a great chance to make the points safe near the end only for Williamson to set up Quinn to make it 2-0 in stoppage time.
