Darren Ambrose netted his 11th goal of the season in Crystal Palace's 1-1 draw at Coventry.

The midfielder put Palace in front midway through the first half but Leon Best equalised for City two minutes after the break.

Ambrose had the first chance of the match, shooting over from 25 yards then seeing his free-kick easily saved by keeper Keiren Westwood.

Westwood then had to be alert to make an excellent save to push out Johanes Ertl's header from Ambrose's cross.

With Ambrose at the heart of every Palace attack, it was no surprise that it was he who opened the scoring on 28 minutes. Freddie Sears fizzed in a low cross from the right and Ambrose side-footed home.

The goal woke Coventry up and Ertl had to hack clear danger in the six yard box while Aron Gunnarsson nodded a corner just past the post.

Just two minutes into the second half, Coventry were on level terms as Michael McIndoe got the better of Danny Butterfield on the left and sent over a cross for Best to head in.

David Bell blasted a volley off target for the Sky Blues, while Westwood denied Ambrose with a good save.

Shaun Derry bravely blocked Bell's shot and Jose Fonte missed a great chance to win the game but headed Ambrose's corner over the bar.

And late on, former Palace striker Clinton Morrison could have snatched the win but Butterfield made a strong block.
