Wolves 1 - 3 Palace

Saturday November 11 2000 - League

Alan Smith's men maintained their splendid form with a great 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux.

It was Palace's Dougie Freedman who opened the score in the 21st minute. The former Wolverhampton striker struck the ball with his right foot past Wolves keeper Oakes.

It was Clinton Morrison who doubled the lead for the Eagles on 44 minutes.

Michael Branch pulled one back for the Wolves on 59 minutes, but it was again Morrison who struck and made it 3-1. His 72nd minute goal came after a big mistake by Wolves captain Kevin Muscat.

Referee Robinson from Hull showed yellow cards to Palace players Steve Staunton and Fan Zhiyi.

Crystal Palace have now taken seven points from their last three games and moved to 21st place in the Nationwide League Division One.

Post match comments

Palace boss Alan Smith said he knew how the Wolves fans were feeling as they staged a protest outside the ground.

He said: "It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. "The way football is going in this country at the moment there is so much at stake.

"Nobody has a divine right to win football matches. I thought we played well against Wolves and that we deserved our points.

"It was a physical game. Wolves set out to intimidate us but we were not in the mood to be intimidated.

"I have tried to turn things round by giving my players their belief back. Don't be fooled because I wear a Saville Row suit and drink red wine."

Wolves boss Colin Lee talking about the angry Wolves fans said: "I can understand the way they feel.

"They want us to be a success and they are unhappy about our league position but we are all working hard to turn things round because like everyone we also want success.

"We didn't lose the game, we gave it away. We gifted them their goals."
