Saturday September 30 2000 - League
Palace boss Alan Smith was furious at the defeat against Preston, describing it as the "worst performance" of the season.
Palace were well beaten by an impressive Preston side, who have surprised many with their good start to the season.
The Division One newcomers opened the scoring when Jon Macken scored after a good run by Steve Basham after 15 minutes.
Preston continued to dominate the game and Mikael Forssell could have pulled the score level just after the break but he wasted his chance.
After 61 minutes, the Eagles lost all hope when Paul McKenna scored Preston's second with a 25-yard volley. Preston had several chances to add to the scoreline, but Palace held out to the end.

An angry Alan Smith said: "I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself but I've told the players in no uncertain terms just how I feel. That was our worst performance so far and the sooner we get rid of performances like that the better.
"There were too many people - the whole 11 in fact - who for whatever reason were doing their own thing. At least I am paid to watch it unlike the fans who came here. I am sure they will go home absolutely disgusted.
"We have some hard work and hard thinking to do and I need to have a sit back and take a look at things.
"Even if Tom Finney had played at his age he would have had a good game against us. But you have to five Preston credit. They played really well."
Preston boss David Moyes said: "It's been a pleasing start in the First Division and although it's a new experience for the players they are handling it very well."
