Saturday August 5 2000 - Friendly
Well does it get any worse than this?!?!? Ok lets get things in perspective, this was MUCH better than Millwall. Alan Smith has only had a few days with the players but already there seems some urgency about them.
However, three minutes after this the first goal went in, courtesy of some slack Palace marking and good finishing. Thankfully I missed the goal, but still while queuing up thought, here we go again.
Palace had more possession in the first half but did very little with it. Morrison looked out of sorts and with no penetration up front, Wycombe had no real shots to save.
Once again, Jamie Smith and his agricultural challenges came into play and conceded a free kick outside the area. This resulted in Palace failing to clear their lines and in the mayhem that ensued, Baird fired in from close range after Gregg failed to hold the ball from thier initial attack. The defence was slow to respond and Baird had all the time in the world to tap in.
The second half at least saw Wycombe play keep ball for five whole minutes and the only Palace player to get a tackle in was Fullarton with another one of his leg breaking specials!!!! THIS IS EMBARRASSING...
Palace attacked a bit more and have shots on target, Carlisle, Morrison and Forsell all going close.
However, with 66 minutes gone after a failed Palace attack, McSporran ran half the length of the pitch to set up Senda, who couldn't miss... 3-0. Where was Jamie Smith? hugging the touchline as usual and he was the guilty party for this goal.
At least this spurned Palace into some attacks and Carlisle immediately reduced the deficit, firing in from close range after good work from Julian Gray, on as a sub...
Once again, humiliation from a lower division team, but at least they fought a but more, which is more than they did at Millwall...!!!
Smith must surely realise now the weak links in the team and where we need to buy... and who to drop!!!
