Frank de Boer

Crystal Palace got their Premier League campaign off to the worst possible start by losing 3-0 at home to Huddersfield Town.

Palace were comprehensively beaten by the promoted Terriers on a day new manager Frank de Boer will want to forget.

De Boer handed debuts to summer signings Timothy Fosu-Mensa and Jairo Riedewald in a back three and RUBENs LOFTUS-CHEEK in a front three.

But Palace struggled to adapt to the new 3-4-3 formation introduced by the Dutchman as Huddersfield started the better out of the two sides.

The Terriers went ahead on 23 minutes after Christopher Schindler flicked on a corner at the near post and Mathias Jorgensen's cross was turned into his own net by right wing-back Joel Ward.

Three minutes later the Premier League new boys made it 2-0 when Steve Mounie rose completely unchallenged to head home Aaron Mooy's delivery.

De Boer made changes at half-time by bringing on Andros Townsend to play in the top three, moving LOFTUS-CHEEK back to the middle and taking off Luka Milivojevic.

Palace improved marginally but their defensive frailties were exposed again when Huddersfield added a third goal on 79 minutes with another Mounie strike.
