Danny Granville claims referee Rob Styles was wrong to send him off against Coventry City last night as the Eagles lost 3-1.
And the former Manchester City left back is to appeal as he was given the red card after being accused of violent conduct against Coventry's Jay Boothroyd.
Palace have only beaten Coventry once in 20 visits to Selhurst Park which goes back to 1958.
Granville said: "It was just handbags really and only a little incident.
"I'm very disappointed because I didn't feel it was a sending off offence and I believe the ref got it wrong.
"I don't know anything about him kicking me — I certainly didn't feel it. Yes, there was a bit of needle but nothing serious.
"I think when all the other players got involved it looked worse than it was. I don't know if I can appeal, but I've got to."
Trevor Francis said: "I was surprised when the two players were sent off because there didn't seem to be too much in the incident.
"I thought a lecture from the ref and possibly a yellow card each would have been enough."
