Andrejs Rubins has returned to Palace after an unsuccessful week trial with French club Troyes.
The Latvian international had hoped to impress in order to secure a permanent move, but now his future hangs in the balance.
He is not wanted at Selhurst Park and despite scoring two super goals against Liverpool and Leicester, has failed to make a good enough impression since joining in October 2000.
A club spokesman said: "Andrejs has come back to Palace. His trial at Troyes didn't work out."
