Team news

Crystal Palace's French centre half Mamadou Sakho continues his recovery from knee surgery and remains the squad's only absentee. Winger Andros Townsend is set to start after overcoming a hand injury that kept him on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.

Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff (knee) is sidelined, while Isaac Hayden, Mo Diame and DeAndre Yedlin all face fitness tests ahead. Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-yueng are available.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"They have an incredible support up there, a good team and are very strong at home which we’re aware of. I have no doubt they’ll be safe at the end of the season.

"When you go to places like Newcastle where the fans are as football focused as they are, there's no doubt that the people who go to that game have one thought in their mind: to see their team beat you. It's a big ask to go there and win games.

"It's a short turnaround for us this week which is never easy but I'm hoping I'll see a good reaction and we'll go up and give them the type of game which will enable us to pick up points."

Rafa Benitez

"They (Palace) have won six games away and four at home, so they are a very good side when they play away.

"The reason is simple – they are a well organised, compact team with pace and ability up front and in wide areas.

"I was quite disappointed with the (Arsenal) game because we didn’t play at the level we can play. You have to give credit to Arsenal because they did well but we had situations in the first half where we could have been more dangerous."
