The summer transfer window is open and Crystal Palace have been linked with a variety of players. Mike Scott looks at who might be coming in...
It’s been almost two weeks since Frank de Boer was appointed Palace boss, and now he’s had a chance to train with the players, it’s worth looking at who he’s rumoured to sign to strengthen the squad.
Colombian centre back Davinson Sanchez of Ajax has supposedly been the subject of interest from Inter, Barcelona and Palace, among others.
Various reports suggest there was a £22m bid from Selhurst, but TalkSport have reported Ajax want £35m, which surely would put an end to Steve Parish’s interest in the 21-year-old, who only moved to Ajax in June 2016, for around £5m.
Ajax right back and Dutch international Kenny Tete has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park for a couple of weeks now. With noises that the deal could cost as little as £3m, the 21-year-old, who has made 31 appearances for Ajax, could prove to be a steal. It would definitely show Frank de Boer’s faith in the Dutch youngster he referred to at his first press conference.
Before everyone gets too excited though, there have been conflicting reports of late that he is on the verge of signing for both Palace and Lyon…
Another Ajax player linked with Palace since before De Boer even put pen to paper to sign as manager is Joel Veltman, the 25-year-old Dutch centre back. Rumoured to be a target for both the Eagles and Tottenham, he has been valued at around £10m.
A couple of days ago it was reported by Dutch publication Voetbal International he wouldn’t be moving, with Ajax offering the 17-time Netherlands international a contract extension from 2018 up to 2020. But further reports have claimed this is to up his transfer fee for a move to the Premier League…
Barcelona reserve keeper Jasper Cillessen is apparently a firm favourite of De Boer’s after their time together at Ajax and with the 28-year-old only getting a single game in the league last season, with Sky Sports reporting that he might be persuaded by first team football in a bid to cement his position in the Dutch national side.
However, although he only cost the Spanish giants €13m last year, he has a release clause of €60m.
This is the number one concern for almost every Palace fan. The deal that we were all told was dead in the water seems like it might well be back on with Palace apparently having agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old French international, following his outstanding loan period last season.
The Liverpool Echo reported that Liverpool are "confident their £30million asking price for the defender will be met" with Palace as fron trunners.
There are plenty of other players who have been mentioned by various sources around the world too... but before you get too excited, there are growing amounts of exit stories too.
One from the Daily Express is that Chelsea are after Christian Benteke after seemingly failing to land Romelu Lukaku, while the Mail has reported Scott Dann is rumoured to be the subject of bids from China. And that’s before we think about what will happen to Yohan Cabaye and Steve Mandanda...
