Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has joined Southampton for an undisclosed fee.
McCarthy, 26, found himself fourth choice goalkeeper after the arrival of French international Steve Mandanda.
He has joined The Saints on a three year deal and will compete with Fraser Forster for the number one jersey this season.
Southampton's Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: "Alex is ambitious and will be pushing for a starting place every time he gets the opportunity, which can only be good for Fraser and a shining example for Harry Lewis and the younger keepers below."
McCarthy was Alan Pardew's first choice keeper at the beginning of last season but fell out of favour after some questionable performances.
He returned to the starting line up in March 2016 against Liverpool after Wayne Hennessey failed a late fitness test, but his slip after trying to clear the ball resulted in a goal for Roberto Firmino and condemned the Eagles to a 2-1 defeat.
Shame it didn't work out at Palace but I will have fond memories of the incredible atmosphere. Good luck to everyone involved at the club!

Meanwhile Youngester Jake Gray has also completed a permanent move on a free transfer to Luton Town.
