Selhurst Park, Tuesday 7.45pm
Palace boss Alan Pardew will shuffle his pack for the visit of the Shrews to Selhurst Park. Keeper Wayne Hennessey is set to make his first appearance of the season, with Alex McCarthy rested and Julian Speroni (finger) out.
Yannick Bolasie is still on compassionate leave and Marouane Chamakh (hamstring) is still sidelined. However, defender Brede Hangeland, striker Dwight Gayle and midfielder Mile Jedinak are likely to have their first starts of the campaign.
Shrewsbury defender Sam Patterson is ready to make his debut after he joined from Barnsley last week. Both Nathaniel Knight-Percival and James Wesolowski are still out with long-term knee problems.
Palace (from): Hennessey, A McCarthy, Ward, Mariappa, Hangeland, P McCarthy, Dann, Cabaye, Bamford, Sako, Campbell, Zaha, Jedinak, Gayle, Murray, McArthur, Fryers, Williams, Mutch, Souare, Lee, Delaney, Bannan, Ledley, Kelly, Puncheon, Guedioura.
Roy Hodgson
"It's very important to us, but we're going to make lots of changes, because I've got to keep the squad alive. It's a problem. Having to leave (Brede) Hangeland off the bench, Joe Ledley and (Julian) Speroni off the bench. Tough job I've got. There will be a lot of changes but we obviously want to win.
"It's a bit like Glenn and Wilf coming off at half-time (on Saturday). They didn't really do anything wrong, but I had options and I need to play my options. I need to keep their spirits up. The margins between some of these players are so fine. Hangeland to (Damien) Delaney to (Scott) Dann is not a lot. These guys will play."
Micky Mellon
"We will be going down there to try and get a result, to win the game. That is no different from always. We know certain games are going to be tougher because you are coming up against a team at a higher level.
"We won’t be going down there with any fear. We all know the reasons the cup is great for us – the money and the chance to continually improve the profile of the club on the national stage. For all those reasons we will be going there to do the best we can to try and win.
"We are going to go there and try and do what Shrewsbury do. If that is good enough, it will see us through. We are certainly not going to go there with any fear. We will be going there to try and play the way we play and working hard to make that happen. It won’t be damage limitation, we will try and play the Shrewsbury way and win the game."
