Team news

Palace boss Dougie Freedman will check on Paddy McCarthy (groin) and Jon Williams (calf) as both have yet to play this term. Striker Glenn Murray is out with a knee injury.

New signings Darcy Blake, Yannick Bolasie and Andre Moritz made their Eagles debuts in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Middlesbrough and should feature again.

Preston midfielder Lee Holmes misses out after suffering a gash in his knee when he collided into an advertising board against Bournemouth.

Skipper John Mousinho faces a fitness test, along with Joel Byrom, while striker Akpo Sodje could start after scoring at the weekend.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"Jon Williams is back jogging, but we're very nervous with that one. He's on his feet doing light training but he still feels tightness in some parts of his calf.

"With the break of the leg last year, we are very, very cautious on him. I know we're in a difficult moment right now on the pitch, but I just think it's right for him that we don't rush him back. We can could certainly do with him but that's the way it goes sometimes.

"Paddy McCarthy's injury is a very frustrating one. He's now picked up an infection in the groin area, which has been identified in the last three or four days. He feels OK but the infection is restricting his movement.

"Murray is going to be another three or four weeks away after the injury he picked up at Exeter City. We're waiting for a few more comebacks, but we'll have a few new signings in the next week, we'll dust ourselves down and we'll be back for Saturday."
