Crystal Palace's new signing John Oster admits he fluked the winning goal against Hereford in the Carling Cup.
The midfielder, who this week joined Palace until the end of the year on a short term contract, got the winner on his debut.
He sent over a cross from the right which keeper Darren Randolph misjudged and it flew into the net.
It sent the Eagles through to the second round after Nick Carle had previously cancelled out Moses Ashikodi's opening goal.
Oster said: "It was meant to be a cross, just for the record, but I was pleased to get the goal and it counts just as much as going in from two yards.
"When it left my foot I thought it could have a chance and when I saw the keeper struggling I thought it was a goal - it went in off the post and I was delighted."
He added: "It is a gamble coming here but being who I am I wanted to prove myself here rather than take the easy option elsewhere.
"I also turned down a contract at Derby to sign here on a short-term deal to prove myself at Crystal Palace."
