Eagles see off the Bulls

Nick Carle and John Oster grabbed their first Crystal Palace goals to help beat Hereford 2-1 in the Carling Cup.

Manager Neil Warnock gave debuts to Oster and keeper Darryl Flahavan, while Calvin Andrew made his first start in an Eagles shirt.

Palace didn't begin this first round clash very well and were given a shock when the Bulls stole the lead four minutes before half-time through Moses Ashikodi.

The former Millwall player - currently on loan from Watford - got on the end of Kris Taylor's left-wing cross to plant home a header in off the crossbar.

It spurred a poor-looking Palace into action with Carle, a £1million summer signing from Bristol City, bringing Palace back on level terms.

He collected the ball 25 yards out and fired a fizzing effort that shot past keeper Darren Randolph for his first goal in English football.

Then new boy Oster, who only signed the day before until the end of the year after being released by Reading, got in on the action to make it 2-1 on 49 after his cross looped over Randolph and flew into the net off the far post.

Youngster Kieran Djilali made his Eagles bow when he came on for Victor Moses on 58 minutes.

Palace: Flahavan, Hill, Derry, McCarthy, Fonte, Carle, Moses (Djilali 58), Andrew, Butterfield, Ifill (Fletcher 45), Oster (Scannell 83).

Not used: Hills, Thomas, Ertl, Wilkinson.

Hereford: Randolph, Rose, Threlfall, Diagouraga, Taylor, Ashikodi, Smith, Odji, Done, Johnson, Beckwith.

Not used: Breen, Guinan, Hudson-Odoi, Easton, Samson, Gwynne, MaCleod.
