Peter Taylor has landed England U20 keeper Scott Flinders from Barnsley.
The fee for the 20-year-old, who has penned a three-year deal, could rise to £1m depending on appearances.
Flinders was a product of the Barnsley youth system and made his first-team debut as a teenager in March 2005.
His impressive displays between the sticks earned him trials at Chelsea and Wigan Athletic. But he was unable to displace Barnsley's player of the year Nick Colgan in goal.
Peter Taylor selected him or a Football League XI team to face Italy at the KC Stadium last season.
Eagles midfielder Sam Togwell, 21, goes the other way for an undisclosed fee.
