Macken aims to prove his worth

Jon Macken is desperate for the chance to prove boss Iain Dowie was right to sign him.

Macken, 28, has scored just once in nine appearance for Palace since his summer move from Manchester City.

But the former Preston striker believes he is back to his best after shaking off a hamstring injury.

Although the presence of Andy Johnson, Clinton Morrison and Dougie Freedman makes it harder to establish himself, Macken has confidence in his ability.

He said: "I'm looking to get back in the team, stay there and do well and hopefully fire us back into the Premiership again.

"I've come back from the hamstring injury a lot more confident this time.

"When I get my chance I just have to take it and make it difficult for the boss to leave me out."
