Team news

Aki Riihilahti will miss the opening game with a calf injury. Otherwise, new signings Darren Ward, Jobi McAnuff and Jon Macken will all make their Eagles debuts.

Luton goalkeeper Marlon Beresford (toe) is out and will be replaced by 19-year-old Dean Brill or Dino Seremet.

New signing Carlos Edwards (thigh) is a doubt but Markus Heikkinen and Dean Morgan should make their debuts.

Standing at 6 feet, 3 inches tall, Luton centre forward Steve Howard has turned into something of a cult-hero at Kenilworth Road since his £50,000 move to the Hatters from Northampton Town on deadline day in 2001.

Howard's lower league scoring exploits for Mike Newell's team since his transfer have fired him into the Luton all-time top scorers list, standing at number 7. Steve's also managed to bag himself a Division 3 golden boot in the process, which saw the Hatters win promotion in the 2001-02 season to Division 2.

When playing in the number 19 shirt for Luton, 29 year old Howard is generally a neat striker boasting goals with all parts of his body, but he uses his height to his advantage - however, with the defence we have - I'd like to think this area of Howard's game will be kept to a minimum come Saturday afternoon.

Fitz Hall, in theory, should have him in his pocket, however - if Howard's 61 goals in the last three seasons are anything to go by - things may not always be as easy as you'd like them to be!
