The Carling Cup

Crystal Palace will entertain Walsall in the Carling Cup first round.

Ties are to be played week commencing August 22.

The first round draw involves all 72 Football League clubs and has been sivided into north and south to avoid long midweek journeys.

Aston Villa, Birmingham, Blackburn, Charlton, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Brom, West Ham and Wigan will enter the second round.

Clubs who have qualified for Europe - Arsenal, Bolton, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Newcastle - will join at the third round stage.
