The Eagles slip further down the depths of the table with a 1-0 defeat against a 10-men Gillingham side.

Crystal Palace should have taken the lead when Dougie Freedman was awarded a penalty ten minutes into the second half. But the striker saw his spot kick saved by Gillingham goalkeeper Jason Brown.

Palace still had an advantage for the rest of the game as Chris Hope was dismissed for bringing down Freedman in the box.

Unfortunately it was Gillingham who found the net at the other end. On 83 minutes, David Perpetuini scored the winner for the home side from Mark Saunders' pass.

Gillingham: Brown, Nosworthy, Ashby, Hope, Cox, Hessenthaler, Smith, Southall, Hills, Shaw, Wallace.

Subs: Saunders, James, Spiller, Perpetuini, Sidibe.

Crystal Palace: Myhre, Fleming, Symons, Popovic, Smith, Derry, Riihilahti, Black, Johnson, Freedman, Shipperley.

Subs: Berthelin, Hughes, Routledge, Watson, Borrowdale.
