Scuds have now been fired at Kuwait (though I'm not sure if there were bio/chemical weapons in them). I believe at least one was taken out by a Patriot missile. Phew.

Whatever the strategy for the war against Iraq, it has started. Donald Rumsfeld tells us the scope and scale of what is to come is beyond anything that has ever been seen before. Forty Tomahawk cruise missiles hit Baghdad in the night hours. Iraq fired three scud-like missiles in return penetrating the Kuwaiti desert. The war is not unfolding yet as advertised. More at: [Link] Saddam was targetted, but appears to have survived. His speech is slurred, he appears nervous and tired. Un-confirmed reports of fires in the southern oil fields. Quiet currently in Baghdad. And judging by the number of police vehicles that just went blazing down Strand, it's kicking off outside Parliament with the latest anti-war demo.

The ground assault has just begun...US forces apparently engaged in battle. And Turkey has just capitulated and allowed the US to use Turkish airspace to attack Iraq.
