Well scrub Diana from that list and I am pretty proud of all those.

The tv was ours as well (good on John Logie).

Isaac Newton would be on that list as well!

Loads of things piss me off especially this country's attitude to sport. But I don't think any country has had such a big effect on the world today as Great Britain has... sport, language, medicine, infrastructure, music, authors etc... It's easy to be critical but people mustn't forget the good points and there are far too many to mention.

Yep, the fact that we're not American, or French, or German, or Australian for starters. For people; Chris Morris, Steve Bell and Douglas Adams. Institutions: the BBC (no, really) and Monty Python and the NHS (bear in mind I haven't been to a hospital since I was 5. Touch wood.)

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

I'm Irish and proud and I think you'll find Spike Milligan was an Irish citizen.

Our language first and foremost.
Our inventions, most notably the Industrial Revolution.
Our music.
Our films.
Our television.
Our armed forces (no, really).
Our literature.
Our scientists (Newton, Darwin, Faraday, etc).
Our sports, which we gave to the world.

Our Club.

All amongst the best in the world, which isn't bad for a wee island like ours.

Michael Faraday for me . I concede that he didn't invent electricity (god , whoever he/she is might of had a say in that) but his exhaustive experimentation of it has advanced us as a people more than any other discovery i can think of.
Even if you think that sooner or later someone else would of emulated him say 25 year laters , we wouldn't be here now discussing this and might still marvel at the wonders of a Rolf Harris stylophone.

Technically yes, he was born in India where his Irish father was a Captain in the Royal Artillery. He served in the same regiment in North Africa during the second world war but became an Irish citizen because of a cock-up in the British immigration laws. He was later made an honorary British knight.
