Trialist 'B' is about to join the 'Cobblers' on a season long loan . . . [Link]

He looks a real talent so hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity.

I can see the supposed benefits of such a loan but I can't get excited about it.

Am I alone in thinking that this will be the end of his senior level hopes with Palace? It's just that we have loaned out a sizeable number of Academy players to EFL clubs in the past few seasons and the only one to really make a mark was Rak-Sakyi, and there is still a question mark over his future.

I think the Academy is mainly seen as a means of making enough money from selling the occasional success story who proves themselves....usually at lower levels, so that it can justify itself. We sell the occasional player...Banks was sold for example, but on face value the Academy is a loss maker.

However, in truth the opposite is probably true as situations where it produces a Zaha and notable others might be much rarer. However, they are worth tens of millions for the club and have been vital.

My own personal view is that Rak-Sakyi is going to have a good career in football it's only a question of what his ceiling is. We have a good academy and I think several other players are going to make it in football.....For example, Justin Devenny is another I think will make it....Whitworth as another and we have a couple of promising forwards.

But with Sakyi by buying Sarr the decision has obviously been made that he's going on loan or to be sold.

I think consistency is the big factor in young players as is their physical strength and those factors often decide on how close to the first team they get early on. Stand outs aren't hard to spot....for the obvious reason they stand out.

I think Scott Banks went on a free so didn't even make money there either!

According to Transfermarkt, we bought him from Dundee Utd for £300k & then we sold him to St Pauli for £400k. So, a 25% profit

That's much better then. I think I saw it on SSN transfers bit on the right hand side of screen that he was listed as a freebie.

With the system we have got now for buying in players, it makes a mockery of the academy financially. Olise alone £8m to £50m. And we have a good few more like him.

However, we apparently have to have the academy as a premier requirement.

And we've just sold Malachi Boateng to Hearts. Transfermarkt haven't yet found out the fee, but there will have been one given what the Hearts manager said on Thursday about getting the deal done so the lad could be available for the Rangers match in which Boateng came on as a late sub.

Basaically, if we can loan our youngsters out to Championship clubs and they perform well then we will either have a saleable asset or a player for our 1st team. Ozoh is at Derby and Ebiowei (NOT an Academy product) at Oxford Utd. This is their opportunity to show what they can do.

Boateng is the role model for players who may not hit PL level. Went on loan to deepest darkest Scotland lower leagues and performed well to earn an interest from a Scottish PL club.

I hope he has a decent career.

A strong academy is a part of Palace's self image from the 'team of the eighties'. Parish and co will all remember and value that.

I share that same bias, just how cost effective it is? I think that's something that could be argued. But personally without Zaha I don't think we would be where we are.

There are also arguments about top clubs hovering up young talent and making it much harder for new clubs to go from minnow to big club and actually stay....Who was the last club to do that?....Wimbledon for a time....Swindon, Reading had moments in the sun...I won't include Blackburn or Fulham as that was all about big money...Leicester? Fairy tale season but they were used as a stepping stone.

In fact it's probably us...who were never a small club....but we are probably the shining example of a mid Championship club that made it....is getting bigger and currently has a bright future...though we have to be aware of that stepping stone issue as well.

Our club is run very very well.....Parish and co...Freedman, without them we would probably be playing Halifax.

Looks like this loan move could be off, apparently they have signed someone called Tarique Fosu in that position.
