What lessons to be drawn for the football Elites ?

That unlike us they can afford to gamble on players who may not work out. They also pay attention to the media profile of a player. Real Madrid were all about galacticos and so were Barcelona until they ran out of money.

I thought Barcelona had to reign in their spending and have a lot of their own talented enough youth in their squad, although I don't particularly follow Spanish football.

Man.City of the late 70’s early 80’s springs to mind. They through a lot of money at it with some top signings, but they didn’t do a lot, an fa cup final defeat to spurs was as good as it got. Even our team of the 80’s beat them at selhurst

Yup that's what I meant they are no longer going after big name players or are being highly selective about it.
