Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |

Im sure the club could do things to make the neighbours a bit more positive about the application .Allowing parents to park inside the grounds and letting them watch their kids (whats all that about?) would be a fair step .

I live a short walk from the training ground which is slap bang amongst housing, which was there before Palace took over. I don't think it is NIMBY to complain if if genuinely impacts you. I am not saying these people are right but we should not just dismiss their complaint either.

Does sound like some form of trade off is going to be required, I have no idea if there is spare / unused ground anywhere on site (or can be acquired nearby) to improve the parking aspect in the street - I can imagine that if you owned a property nearby, the traffic / parking in copers cope road will have ramped up considerably given the success of the Academy,U18,U21 & Ladies teams, especially if the longer term plan is to do away with the need to use the Sutton pitch. Stadium by stealth , is not a bad expression to describe the situation, especially given that if the floodlights are granted it will surely only be a stepping stone to the next requirement(s) of increased crowds / seating.

Perhaps Palace should sell the site to a developer to build a new council housing estate. That would really give Mrs Bucket something to complain about. In all seriousness, I'm sure an amicable resolution can be found, like building a fifty feet wall at the end of her garden.

I have a certain amount of sympathy with residents. I used to live in another part of London and a football club applied for planning permission for a training ground on some public playing fields. All sorts of promises were made on times of usage, height of building, lighting towers etc. Residents were not too against the proposals and it was approved. The club first built lights much higher than agreed and were not ordered to take them down and were in fact given retrospective planning permission. They then turned training ground into main club playing ground. If this had been suggested at beginning planning permission would have been opposed. I think permission on palace training ground is that permission has been granted but residents have objected and this is now in papers.

My wife lived in Copers Cope before we married 53 yrs ago. Much quieter then and the area where the academy now sits used to be a bank's sports ground, mostly cricket pitches as I recall. I have some sympathy with those folk living close by, especially the question of floodlights. Here in the sticks the local village football pitch is a couple of hundred yards away (as the eagle flies) and the lights they installed a few years ago light up the sky of a winter's evening when they train or play. Even the few dozen folk who watch create quite a din too and their erratic car parking causes the usual moaners to grumble. Hopefully they'll find a mutually acceptable solution to the issues at Copers Cope.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

To be fair if they do play PL2 (U21 league) matches there under the lights, then it is effectively becoming a small stadium by stealth. But what did they expect when the approved plans already included a grandstand?! Just wondering if I will ever get to watch a game there at some point!

People tend to forget, that things dont stay the same forever and developments happen, when property is sold on.

Did it used to belong to Nat West? If so many years ago I got horribly drunk in there and somewhat disgraced myself. Originally posted by Palace Old Geezer
