France's first game is July 24.
The final is Friday 9th August.
PL season kicks off Saturday 17th August.

Palace have games in USA on 31st July and 3rd August so expect JPM & Olise to miss those.

'Genuine question'. Why is there an age restriction in men's Olympic football but not in women's? (At least I assume there isn't). I thought everything had to be "equal" these days.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

They've picked a strong squad. I personally don't want our players going but they probably want to. They'll probably need to be rested for the first game or two of the season.

To have one of our front three out from the early games of the new season is bad enough; to have two out is even more irritating.
It does matter; Mateta and Olise won’t have a pre season with us and will be competing in an irrelevant competition.

How many can even name the last three Olympic winners?

The start of the season is important in terms of building early confidence and momentum and you don’t want to go into it with one hand tied behind your back.

I'm of the same mind. Couldn't give a toss about olympic football - nor could anyone else - except Thierry Henry by the looks of it.

Its so fricking annoying.

But with Olise he's shown he can come straight in and impact. Feel like it will impact JMP more.

But this is the reason we are looking at players like Kamada. Will be able to help fill any gaps

What a joke. Just hoping our boys get a tournament ban 5 minutes into the first game.

Football, Golf, Tennis, Basketball are just a few of the sports that should not be at the Olympics.

The Olympics as the name suggest should be the pinnacle of a sportsperson career, the gold medal the one that everyone in that sport wants to win.

Probably won't be that bad. Tournament finishes a week before the season starts even if they do reach the final and there are only 3 PL weekends before the first international break (2nd - 10th Sep) where it'd be unlikely for them both to be called into the senior squad.

Minutes likely to be spread out in that France squad - congested schedule, strong squad, France have weak opposition in the group (Guinea, USA, NZ). Every possibility they'll be good to start those 3 PL games.

Well, I guess we will see if Olise and JPM agree with you

This a provisional squad and will, apparently, be cut from 25 and 18 so it is not certain both will go. I expect they will though as Olise should be a lock and there are only 3 over age in the provisional and they could all be picked (inc 33 year old Lacazette)
In theory, Palace could forbid them from joining but I can't see that happening if the players are keen

pre-season is mainly about fitness. If they've been training and playing matches as part of the Olympics then it serves the same purpose. They're both intelligent enough footballers to catch up on the tactics.

Yes, but not if Olise gets crocked as on his last visit to France's U-21 squad and is out for several months. That is assuming we haven't sold him by then, in which case nothing to worry about.
