Firstly, I hope he makes a speedy recovery. I await the blame on the far right although that seems unlikely considering he's an Orban type figure.
Apparently a 71 year old Lone Wolf has been charged. Sounds a bit fishy. Anyway, let's wait and see.

I overheard a conversation that I probably shouldn’t attach too much credibility to, but the conversation was linking this assassination attempt to the assassination of the Japanese politician last year. Apparently both had issues with the COVID lockdown/vaccine. Probably untrue or coincidence…but if there’s a third…

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

In fairness to the press so far they're saying no political affiliation. I wonder if that will change. I think it's right to be suspicious as he was anti the Ukraine war but Slovakia are a NATO country. I guess it's all conspiracy theories but something doesn't seem right. Could this be the catalyst to pull out of Ukraine? I guess it's all just guessing and speculation.

if the shooter was any flavour of Conservative, we would have already been told.

and still no word ? therefore either....

- Antifa lefty
or
- islamist
or
- an employed hitman, working for the usual suspects.

I expect the hackneyed old 'Mental health' card will be played ?
to play-down any Slogan the shooter was championing.

anyway. Politicians are all hypocrites. You shoot one of them ( in the street ) and your are a criminal, Shoot a different Politician and you are some kind of a hero ?

I believe she did no jail time and was seconded in Britain with little or no contact with the outside world. Nothing suspicious about that and certainly no links to his claims on British territory in North Africa. Just an everyday Irish hero - as Ireland clearly had no time for Mussolini.

of course its like shooting Hitler. What about Churchill, Thatcher or Blair ?

is it ok to shoot Politicians who haven't murdered anybody but have spvnked a ton of money down the toilet ? money = healthcare = a ton of lives saved.

Ireland loved Mussolini. They did not like Hitler. It's revisionism at its finest - once again. Look up Mussolini in the Irish papers. My friend is Ireland's leading Mussolini historian and keeps on having his stuff nicked by the trendy historians.

the point is a) rule of law or b) mob vigilante-ism

the place for Slobodan Milosovic , Pol Pot and Josef Stalin is the international Court at the Hague. Not shot by a nutter.

but then again, if u doubt the reliability of the justice system ?

Slovakia ? any thoughts ?

He previously had to resign because journalists that were investigating corruption were followed 24/7. One of those journalists ended dead. The PM then offered a large reward to catch the killers. The money he offered as a reward threw up even more questions relating to corruption.

He sounds almost as bad as Boeing but probably less deadly.

I live in SK so here's my take.

Fico was recently re-elected for the 3rd time, he is popular here although he does have a few domestic enemies.
He does have some links to mafia gangs many years ago however nothing has ever been proven or gone through in court so we'll never know how involved he was.

He talks a good fight though, first EU PM to order an investigation into the damage caused by the covid vaccines, he has rejected EU quotas to import useless low skilled, low IQ 3rd world migrants, he is pro talks between Ukraine & Russia, he is on record saying he would veto Ukraine's accession into NATO.

Domestically little trickles down to the working class which has disappointed some.

The shooter was a famous far left Slovak poet by the name of Juraj Cintula, he is a member of the Progressive Slovakia party, when in handcuffs he was asked why he shot Fico & he calmly said he disagreed with Fico's politics.

Fico was shot in the town of Handlova (half my fiance's family live there & some of her cousins were in the crowd) at pretty much point blank range, (the video is on X) the operation to stop the bleeding took 4 hours, looks like he is going to live.

His security detail should have seen it coming & were caught napping, Cintula waded into the crowd & actually called Fico over, Fico obliged & got shot for doing so, fortunately for Fico Cintula clearly has no weapons training.

I've said on the Ukr-Rus war thread that Central Eastern Europe has it's fair share of corruption & the PSP party may well be involved however Slovakia remains an incredibly peaceful place & one of the last bastions of common sense left in Europe.

Side not roughly 1 in every 100 people owns a gun in Slovakia & shootings are very rare.

Right wing Japanese politician murdered recently and now a right winger European politician very nearly murdered, who knows what state he'll recover to.

Both anti immigration politicians.....within a global system dedicated to immigration into Europe. Some people could be forgiven for at least developing suspicions....maybe, maybe not.
