I'm sure we've done something like this before, but I played a ZZ Top album this morning and it reminded me what a great guitarist the late Billy Gibbons was.

His playing on the track 'I Need You Tonight' was impeccable.

Your turn, but rather than the usual suspects of Clapton, Knopfler and Bonamassa (fabulous guitarists though they are) it would be interesting to read your suggestions about some more unusual, but brilliant, guitar solos.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Ritchie Blackmore in all/most Deep Purple tracks(one in my signature).

David Gilmore, Pink Floyd, 'live' version of Comfortably Numb from Live 8.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Steve Howe in the closing sequence of Starship Trooper.
Not technically brilliant, but cleverly put together and stunningly different.
Or, from the same album, The Clap. Acoustic playing at its very best.

Not an unusual one, but: Carlos Santana "She's not there" on Moonflower.

I couldn't agree more, Ritchie is my Hero, But Gilmores two solos in Comfortable Numb are stunning. Parisienne Walkways, Gary Moore, is one great solo,

Before passing my suggestion I'd like to give my whereabouts, I'm one of the most devoted Eric Clapton fans around and a rock music fan from 1967. But try this one-Quintessence/Sea of Immortality, guitarist Alan Mostert, one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard, way back into the end of the sixties, beginning of the seventies.

Nice one, I had a chum who was a big fan of Quintessence, but I never really got 'into' them.

Clapton BTW, recorded a great album/dvd here in Midhurst at Cowdray House during lockdown. Lady on the Balcony - you'll have it I'm sure.

Child in Time was a great solo.
