Morocco & Algeria heading in that direction ( 90 million people)

Mali also now joining the Anglo sphere. ( 24 million ), the last article also adds Tunisia (12 million) to the countries going lukewarm on French.

Added to places that spoke good French at the end of WWII and we have a trend ( Damascus, Vietnam/Indochine, etc ).

Cameroon ? bordel ! Kalashnikovs

Even the percentage of Canadians who speak French, and only French, is way way down since the 1960's. Much of this has been driven by immigration from China & Latin America.

In France itself, The contributions of Youtube, and the internet generally, cannot be understated. Kids learn to speak perfect mid-atlantic English from being online with all their gamer buddies.
---------------------------------------

One exception, to this trend, seems to be Egypt. Perhaps they still remember the kicking they got from Napoleon ? Perhaps also their central role as a lynchpin of the Arab language is significant for a reluctance to learn English.
Egyptian celebrities of Music & Film are, to the Arabic World, akin to the Beatles to the English-speaking World. And French ? not as influential as it is in, say, Algeria.

I would agree with Morocco I was there 2 years ago and our guide confirmed that the King wants people to learn English, they have a complicated history with the French.

FYI
Morocco is planning on becoming the Green centre of the world with big plans for Solar panels in the desert and exporting energy.
