Every season there is talk of the Relegation mini league and its importance. Picking up points from your relegation rivals is important for two reason's You get the points and your opponents don't! This season the current league is as follows. I use average points per game. Everton 2.16 Every year one team gets out of the doo doo (Luton?) and one teams drops into the bottom 3 from a seemingly safe position. This season that is currently Brentford. Despite Toney's return that may continue given their run of games to come. Spurs A That is a tough run of games!

Update Everton 2.16
There are 16 games left in the mini league. Everton have won their last 3 and we have won our last 2. I would bite ya hand off for a draw up there! 5 of Everton's last 7 games are against these teams.

Brentford needed that win yesterday. They play four in the mix and no less than eight chasing Europe or the title. They also have chelsea who I haven't included!

Update We also have Everton's appeal and their 2nd case and Forests first. Rumours are that Everton's will be reduced to 6 points but they will get another 6 points, as will forest. You read it here first. Part one. Tick. Edited by The groover (26 Feb 2024 1.28pm)

Our last five games at home have yielded three wins, a draw and just the one defeat against Chelsea (in which we put up a fight). On that form you would hope we would beat Luton and possibly Newcastle too who have been awful away from home. I think we'll find out a lot in our next game. As it stands, if other results go our way and we beat Luton then I think we can relax and enjoy the rest of the season. What I'd really hate is if we were to only stay up because of points deductions to Everton and Forest. As it is I'm feeling pretty confident we'll finish strongly like last season.

We live within our means (well, as defined under the rules) and suffer as a consequence with a threadbare squad compared to some, decades to ground improve etc. Without wishing to be a bit holier than thou, if other clubs can just build a gleaming new ground on the banks of the Mersey or amass an enormous squad in fragrant breach of the rules and with no consequence, then why have we had to tighten the belts and behave all this time? As you say, probably academic now as 2 wins and 2 draws from 12 will probably be enough and we WILL do this with room to spare.

I know I'm getting well ahead of myself (Glasner has had 1 game in change and we beat a 10 man Burnely at home) but if we put up a good fight against Spurs and get a point, I think we can start looking up. Luton , Newcastle, Forest, Bournemouth there are points there. I think we'll win 2 draw 2.

Sheff Utd and Burnley aren't catching us. I think Spurs offers an opportunity but we'll obviously be underdogs. Let's say that, worst case, we lose that. The Luton game is massive. We're eight points ahead of them having played a game more. If we beat them, I think we're in the clear. Lose and it's twitchy again. Honestly I think we'll be fine either way but that's the one we need to go all out to win.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I get what you're saying, but I want us to stay up on merit, not because other teams are punished. Having said that, I do think if they are knowingly guilty then really the only fair punishment is relegation. The same for the big clubs. Points deductions mean nothing otherwise.

No mini league games this weekend but other than Brentford getting a draw with chelsea some good results for us. Luton and everton needed to get something out of Villa and west ham respectively but both failed. Next games are us V Luton this weekend. Now a don't lose game The following week Burnley v Brentford and Luton v Forest. A must win for Burnley and the same for luton. For forest it would be a don't lose game. Looking at the remaining games I think we are already nearly safe.

Everton 2 One game left for Forest v palace. A draw there should see us safe as I can't see any of the bottom 3 getting to 30 points this season. Our record won 5, Drawn 4, Lost 2.
