Len Choules passed away last week, a couple of weeks short of his 92nd birthday.
I know there are several posters who will remember Len from the third division south and early fourth division days.
One of my boyhood heroes. RIP, Len.

Len 'skinny' Choules I remember him from when I was 'knee-high to a grasshopper'.

Third Division South, a reliable stopper from an era remembered with affection.

He did run a bookies, I saw him around quite often.

RIP

A great team-player, very reliable.
However my strongest memory is of the own-goal he scored when we were at home to Carlisle in 1959. He attempted to pass the ball back to keeper Vic Rouse from the half-way line. Vic had come out of his goal and the ball sailed over his head into the net. The Crystal Palace Complete Record shows that Palace lost 0-2 (which I remembered) and the date was 21 March 1959.
Such golden memories!

Why do I recognise that story/memory? When I wrote about it on here a few years ago, I mentioned that a few of us schoolboys had won the match ball, which appeared in Brockwell and Dulwich parks for a number of years afterwards. Yes, golden memories.
