Just saw the Fulham v Burnley replay and this caught my attention. Was it the first match or have i been asleep ? What are your thoughts ? personally, good. Good luck to her and i hope she makes a go of it. On the one hand, on the other.....isnt there always an agenda to eradicate male-only zones in our society ? And to take something which worked perfectly well and to tinker with it. Lets be honest.....some top footballers are from societies & cultures that are less enlightened about the role of women. Many players are hot-heads. And when the going gets tough, will they accept the authority of a woman. This will be amusing to observe. A stinking row between a lady and , say, Samir Nasri. Personally, i wouldnt have the balls to referee Joey Barton and/or Alex Ferguson and i will confess it honestly. Try to manage Zinidene Zidane .....good luck with that. I predict some parallels with Margaret Thatcher, Catherine the Great of Russia or even England's own Elizabeth I. A woman in a man's World. Needing to be extra strong to compensate for all the hostility. Like bouncers in a nightclub or airport security , maybe the women will be better than men. For some aspects of the job. PRECISELY BECAUSE we have a taboo about getting aggressive with women. And then there is the inevitability of referee mistakes, failure and crowd-hostility. If it happens in the male game, then it must also happen in the female game. How do we reconcile wanting to deck Mark Clattenburg with a sense of political correctness ?
Prediction : female referees will become a permanent thing. The political momentum behind this is enormous. And, again, its all really about politics. Gary Linekar will love this. Follow the link below, and ask yourself....would you like to be a referee ? Edited by PalazioVecchio (24 Dec 2023 9.50am)

I went to a Bromley game earlier in the season and it was a female ref. She did okay, made a couple of iffy decisions, which is fine, it happens to the best. But what I noticed is the definite improvement of the respect the players showed her, obviously because she was a woman, there was no dissent , no arguing the toss and I even noticed a couple of times players in the heat of the moment visibly swung round to give her a mouthful, but then suddenly stopped in their tracks when they remembered it was a woman official. So basically if it has a positive effect like that and stops dissent, all that whinging and whining at every decision, then the more the merrier

The fella in the link below is Turkish. Some of the best referees come from there. and you are correct. Aggressive players, comfortable with abusing male referees, are halted in their tracks by a female referee. Maybe every schoolboy team needs a female referee.....cos the level of abuse is shocking. Parents punching referees and all that. It is totally ridiculous the levels of abuse currently witnessed.

In all fairness coal mining, lumber jacking and much of construction are high paid jobs currently. Creches, social care jobs etc, even education would be lower paid. I don't really mind who the ref is as long as they're fair. I guess a trans one will be a bit of a test.

Edited by PalazioVecchio (24 Dec 2023 11.39am) It might be a bit awkward if they're a 24 year old blonde stunner with lovely jubblies and a pen15.
