Last night l thought we had a very poor keeper in Henderson,he does not look confident, looks totally relieved when he makes a save, and his distribution and kicking where pretty poor not to mention his couple of mad Hatter moments,l sincerely hope we put Johnson back as number 1 keeper when he is fit,Henderson is a liability and not worth the £20 million we paid for him,Utd must be laughing there sox off!!!

I think he is class and backed him to be our no.1 soon. He has been out for quite a while and was tipped to be no.1 for a reason at Man U so I'm kinda prepared to gloss over the fumbles last night and see how he does with a few more games under his belt.

Think half his problem last night was his gloves didn’t look fit for purpose!

I had that feeling that someone applied olive oil to his gloves at half time but overall i did not have any confidence issue with him, to be honest just expecting better passing from him. Quite early to get stressed he just had 2-3 games and team is much poorer than the goalie. Edited by blackheatheagle (22 Dec 2023 6.57pm)

So the guy has played hardly any football in months and you write him off after one game. The only part of your post that I think has any merit is regards his kicking . That noticeably got worse as the game went on and I put that down to the injury that he has just recovered from. A “ liability “ ? Seriously !

Henderson is a very good no 2 that may mature into a decent no 1 . For me at the moment Johnstone has the shirt

I thought he made some good saves last night. I think he's more supple than Sam and has sharper reflexes. He achieved good lift-off in attempting to prevent the Brighton equaliser - pity his fingers aren't an inch or two longer. Hard to tell from TV coverage whether he has a good understanding yet with back four. He's obviously confident, brave and ambitious - important attributes for a keeper. That said, I still had a lot of time for Guita. I thought he was excellent.

Guehi let him off of a deserved bollocking at the end for not coming out to collect a ball he was shielding. The referee did us a huge favour giving a soft free kick. The punch onto Welbeck wasn't good. Saw a replay earlier and Welbeck has stepped to the side so Henderson has 'sliced' the punch on to him. If Welbeck had been a bit braver and stayed straighter it would have rolled in. Dropped that cross that the defence bailed him out of. Shot stopping was good but everything else screamed of a lack of match practice. Hopefully he can get back into the swing of it soon.

I think the gusty wind played a part too, difficult conditions for a keeper.

I think the injury took its toll on his kicking as the game progressed. As we know any muscle injury of not fully recovered will cause discomfort over time if you are constantly using it over a short period of time, I can see why his distribution became problematic across the second half. It has been stated he was suffering with flu across the week and this affected his training / time on the grass. I can see why that second half became difficult for him alongside the constant pressure he was under due to the tactics of us inviting pressure and dropping deep for long periods of time. He is playing as a stranger really amongst his back four and team mates, this counts for alot as the general understanding and little telepathic nuances amongst him and defence will not develop until game-time and minutes on the pitch enables the back four and him to mature as a unit. Guehi and Anderson as a pair and individuals have not been playing to the standards of last season. They have been getting a real get out of jail pass amongst fans this season! Johnston has been left exposed and keeper weaknesses then become evident. Henderson is a very good keeper and a keeper will make 10 good goal saving saves and two mistakes and those mistakes are the takeaways in a game!! It’s an unforgiving position where you need to build credit in the bank with supporters so they turn a blind eye to mistakes later down the line. Last week - everyone was raving about him, goalkeepers have to make split decisions all the time in a game and everything they do is scrutinised, they got to have the perfect game in the eyes of most football fans, who don’t have any insight or detailed understanding about the position. He is very talented, confident, brave, gets down well, has character, handling is good - all attributes you need at an elite level to be a keeper in the prem. Don’t get over-excited at a performance at city, then hyper critical in the next game. The City game showed what he can do, over time he will be our Martyn, where he will be that difference between a win , lose or draw consistently - much like last week.

Definitely doesn’t fill you full of confidence like Sam does, but with his injury and Sam clearly being our number one, Henderson is under pressure to perform when he does get his chance, which must weigh a bit heavy

Everyone is being a tad unfair...He’s had an injury and it takes time...most of the comments come from people who have never played the game....he’s an excellent shot stopper probably a better one than Johnstone although I don’t think there’s much between them...
