I always recall being allowed to leave school early, as West Brom were at Palace on the Friday night before Christmas. My dad had prearranged it with the head, and as it was the last day, there was no problem. In the West Midlands, it was cold, and dull, but no more. we sat off the M6 and by the time we got to Rugby, close to the beginning of the M1. We started to see snow by Newport Pagnell area I always remember or at least Luton it was an absolute blizzard. It was also a blizzard across London. We got to the ground at 6:45 to be told the game was off. This was also before the M25, so I rooted taken us from Staples Corner through Kilburn, Cricklewood, Westminster across Westminster Bridge, and through the suburbs of South London. I recall, driving back and my dad buying us fish and chips, and we ate them in the car next to St Paul’s Cathedral.

Anyone else remember this? Older fans only of course.

As both of us were out of the FA Cup, on fourth round day, the march was played and my dad said we’d go. It was for Albion, Remi Moses debut, and he deflected Steve Kember. cross shot into the net. We were two down, but two very quick goals from Ally Robertson and Cyrille Regis got a point. We were sat in the Whitehorse Lane stand I think, a little further down from where away fans are now.

Good memories, my second season and first few away games I went to, with my dad. We still have season tickets, for our sins.

Yes , we were yellow and green then. We were sat in the upper section of the stand. There was standing paddock in front. I would think away fans were then in the Holmsdale corner. We were in other years until mid 90s when the away end changed to that stand but near to the Holmesdale End.

It made up for the postponed game with the fruitless journey. Although for me then it was an adventure.
