Premier League 2 Player of the month - good lad!

20-year old goal-scoring superstar deemed not good enough to get 15-minutes off the bench by dyed-in-the-wool, obstinate first-team coach. Not as good as Mateta in the eyes of the Hodgesaurus.

The standard of PL2 must be incredibly low in Roy's view.

In reality its low in everyone's view. If he was banging them in for fun in the championship you'd be right to feel aggrieved.

This is all the more annoying, especially for Ola-Adebomi, when the back pages on Thursday heralded a new star, Micah Hamilton, for his debut goal for City in the Champions League the previous night. Hamilton played 85 minutes in the recent slaughter 0-3 by the Palace U21 team in Manchester. If this situation is allowed to continue we will lose all our up and coming talent to other clubs on the cheap.

I notice however that Ola-Adebomi (I wish he would call himself Ola) didn’t play for the U21s on Monday possibly so he can be rewarded by Roy with a pitch side seat at the Etihad!

Roy tends to bring young players on in games we've already lost, like the 4-0 drubbing by Newcastle earlier this season. If City stroll to a comfortable lead he may well get 10/15mins on Saturday, especially if Eduoard is out as there's no way JPM can last 90+ minutes.

Absolute Fair Point.

At best he will get a place on the bench but not come on.

This is a game that we are almost certainly not going to get anything from, so doesn't matter if you had Mateta or Ola-Adebomi upfront, given Edouard is injured.

If you look back to his England days, Roy didn't take any risks with his squads. For all Southgate s faults, he was prepared to thrown in young players.

I don't see these academy players getting any sort of chance whilst Roy is still incharge.

I can't think of a youngster who ever didn't make it in Palace's fist team and then was regrettably successful elsewhere.

Remember that Zion Atta - the wonderkid from a couple of years ago that we lost? He's 18 years old now and without a club having been released by Nice.

Reece Hannam has played 56 minutes in League 1 this season. Scott Banks got 6 goals in League 2 last season and is now 21. John Kymani Gordon hasn't scored in League 1 this season. Killian Phillips isn't standing out in League 1 when there were thoughts of him going to a top Championship side in the summer. Nya Kirby is playing National League. Luke Dreher is at Wealdstone. Kian Flanagan got some hype for a while - doesn't have a club now, was at Barnet last year. Jason Lokilo is at Hull, he's 25 now. Brandon Pierrick is at Croydon. Sam Woods is at Bromley.

For the amount that people say the academy players don't get a chance, there's a lot more evidence to state that they actually just aren't good enough.

Hopefully Ola-Adebomi could be but he's not done anything so far that John Kymani Gordon didn't do.

We keep hearing about top notch facilities and a massive catchment area. So what is going wrong?

It’s well known in professional football that only a very small number of players make it to the professional ranks. So there is nothing unusual about players not making it after leaving the Club. However, Banks, Gordon and Phillips are still Palace players though. Banks is out with an ACL injury having moved to Germany, Gordon is at Cambridge and Phillips doing better than you think at Wycombe with his first goals for the Club and Irish U21 teams recently.
Reece Hannam and Luke Dreher had serious injuries, Pierrick had a very brief outing with the first team and sadly looked well out of his depth, Kirby (and Kaikai), after promising starts, signed longer term contracts to stay at the Club not understanding that they were only required to make up the numbers in training. Lokilo has made it to the Championship and we will see if he develops further.
Most of these players come from a time when we had a second class academy and Chelsea picked up all the best South London prospects. They gave them minutes in the first team to make them a more attractive loan to Championship sides for a better test. Until we get a manager who is prepared to do the same we will be holding back our future prospects.

It's amazing how many clubs blood their youngsters, even if they haven't been out on loan. It's almost as if playing them is a good way of finding out if they are good enough or not. Dumb t***s.

Surely you have to ask questions about the ability of some of these scouts to find decent young players in the first place. I appreciate that future maturity is difficult to spot, but on the basis we have only really brought through two top players in Zaha and Moses (AWB wasn’t originally one of ours), then we really aren’t very good at it.

What is your reply to Norburys old gits post about the Man city youngster, Ola he dosent have to be sensational, just better than Mateta

With youngsters, I've basically always thought that if you don't try them in the first team you will never really know what they're like. I'm not saying we should just be chucking on youngsters for the sake of it but I would slowly introduce say, Ademorola, Rak-Sakyi and Ozoh into the team, or this guy as we're short up top. But even our best youngsters are injured. We should perhaps wonder about our sports science department.
