He looked 95 but I'm sure he used to enjoy it about 40 years ago. If ever there was an advert to give up drinking, drugs and smoking - it's him. We'll never hear the end of that song now - although broadcasters will have to edit the cheap lousy bit. RIP Shane. A fallen idol.

It is a testament to the resilience of the human body that he lasted this long. The boys of the (fictional) NYPD choir will be singing tonight.

I met Shane a few times before he was famous (and after) he worked in a record shop and behind the bar of a pub near Charing Cross. Man was a genius and as all of them are deeply flawed. When on form he was charming, witty and wrote some of the finest lyrics of our times. Latterly affected by the living of a good life he was never going to make old bones. Rest in Peace Shane. You made the world a better place.

Really sad about this. His music provided some of the great leaping around moments. Will raise a glass to him at the first opportunity. RIP Shane.

Like Keith Richards, one of those guys who's been in the public eye abusing himself for decades. You get round to thinking maybe they're immortal. Unfortunately not.

Born on Christmas Day in the fine county of Kent, which I didn’t know I wasn’t a fan, but undoubtedly one of the best Christmas songs off all time RIP

Really hit hard by this. Always knew this time would come. Shane, the pogues and the popes were a massive part of my life growing up. Shook hands with him but never got to speak to him. As they say. You should never meet your heroes. We will never seen another Shaneo! Seen the pogues loads of times. When Shane was on form it was unbeatable. When he wasn't it was a disaster. Reminds me of a team I support. The memories of those concerts and songs I grew up with will never die. He was a gentle soul. Edited by Irisheagle87 (01 Dec 2023 8.27pm)

Legendary boozer. His booze concoctions were famous and he’d often have 4 or 5 different drinks like a pint of bailey’s with extra brandy added and a pint of Guinness with barley wine added to give it that extra kick. Apparently he’d sit them in front of him sip away at them all randomly.
