He’s perfectly entitled to his view - as long as you are not disrupting others, do what you want.

I don't believe he did disrespect it and I say this as a long term poppy seller. It is his choice and he should not be forced or embarrassed into doing something he disagrees with. I think he is wrong but I respect his choice. If you read the news articles I think his actions were quite clear. Edited by Badger11 (09 Nov 2023 5.54pm)

agree 100%, its up to him, whether I agree is neither here or there, as far as I can tell we can still think what we want, unless the home secretary has banned it!

here is the description below...... As a Paddy myself, i have always respected the Poppy while in the UK. Notwithstanding the 800 years of British army killing my countrymen ( and us returning the favour). Very many Irish died in the Somme, so the Poppy can be for them, or for our oppressors. The most important part being , we are all friends now. Forgive and forget. We must always honour the War dead - on all sides. However, i vote against constant War, non stop, all over the globe. The difference between a Poppy and a peace symbol is palpable. My advice to that footballer. Keep your head down, and dont draw attention to yourself. Hardcore IRA & UVF are all T0ssers. East Belfast is British, County West-Cork is Irish. Even if the latter probably has a higher proportion of English Nigels than the former. And Kilburn is..... as a Paddy, i would rather fight my own government than da Brits. James McClean is not a role model i would follow. If he wants to embrace all that 'RA shyte, then play in Ireland, France or best of all Malaga where he can dispute the border with Gibraltar every week. Alleged Republican hard man Roy Keane wears the poppy on telly every week. And if people in Ireland dont like it, then change the channel. Respect the nation that has adopted you. If in Saudi Arabia, you dont eat bacon sarnies and publicly snog your boyfriend......otherwise don't live there. Now if, say, your Uncle was innocently murdered by the Parachute Regiment on Bloody Sunday ? then your opinions on Poppies may be more valid than the rest of us. Us who had a more pampered upbringing. Nevertheless, the Middle East is full of people trying to rectify a previous grievance, people who cannot forgive & forget. I wear a poppy and support poppy donations every year. The Irish that have a problem with it and show it usually have a chip on their shoulders and tbh are generally scumbags.

Keep it quiet yeah Is it being allowed? Literally every political leader including everyone’s favourite uncle Sadiq has condemned it. Police have asked them to move it. Wouldn’t exactly say that it is being allowed. The organisers have just said that they are going to do it anyway.
