No thanks. Why would you sell Jake O’Brien and buy Rob Holding.???

Unfortunately because in all likelihood Textor said so, (well O’Brien out anyway).

Also, why would Holding want to move from being a reserve at Arsenal to a reserve with us? I mean, he might get ahead of Tomkins, but surely not Richards, and even then he only plays if Guehi or Andersen are out. This kind of signing would really infuriate me, especially as the OP said, O'Brien was looking like a very good prospect. Hopefully just agent talk.

I would imagine this might mean Richards is off. Talk of him needing game time from the USA manager. Even if not both Richards and Tomkins seem to be in the treatment room at least twice a season and he's better than Tomkins, so if for a relatively small fee it isn't a awful idea. There are just far more pressing issues in the squad that need addressing.

Parish and Freedman will know that Arsenal are desperate to offload a number of players and may have decided they can pick up Holding for a relative snip. At 27 he's got a few years left. If we haven't got the money to buy the players we need then Holding isn't a bad option to bolster our back line.

I was disappointed to see Jake O’Brien go as he seemed to tick all the boxes for us after his successful loan spell in Belgium. Presumably he didn’t impress the coaches at Palace enough or wanted regular football. Either way being left with 2 centre back understudies, one of whom has been injured more often than not, while the other is game but well past his sell by date is less than ideal. I suspect Roy has pointed this out. Holding at a reasonable price isn’t such a bad shout. Given our limited funds my concern would be that Roy had elected to stick with the current attacking options in favour of another centre back. Potentially another 6 months of Ayew plus Edouard/Mateta as our front 2 with an occasional Edouard and Mateta pairing on the rare occasion both are in the mood!
